Institute Presentation

Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna (UNIBO), the oldest university in the Western world, paves the way for innovation through an increasingly rich program catalogue, cutting-edge research and a broad international perspective. As a comprehensive research university, Alma Mater invests in the multidisciplinary cross-cultural approach and in the inseparable connection between research and teaching. One of the most active universities leading and participating in European research and academic cooperation projects, Bologna has formed knowledge alliances with industry and public/private organizations and it is a hub of international networks. UNIBO is the second Italian university for the attractiveness of European funding for research, 37st in the European ranking of institutions of higher education. In Global Rankings UNIBO occupies the top 10 national ranks in major league tables such as QS World University Rankings, THE World University Rankings, and ARWU World University Rankings.

The Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology (FaBiT) at UNIBO stands out for its strong multidisciplinary approach to science and promotes cutting-edge research activities combining different expertise ranging from pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology to genomics, computational chemistry, and computational biology to bioinformatics. FaBiT is a leading department within drug discovery and development and in 2019 QS World University Rankings it was included between 51st and 100th position for Pharmacy and Pharmacology.

Within QSPainRelief, UNIBO participates to WP5 by performing molecular pathway analysis and contributing to parameterize and validate the predicted medicine combinations by means of specific in vitro cell models; moreover, UNIBO leads the efforts for WP10, dealing with the different ethics-related issues that entail the project.
